@iLabAfrica is a Centre of Excel­lence in ICT Innov­a­tion and Devel­op­ment established in 2011 under the Faculty of Information Technology at Strathmore University—the Centre became autonomous in 2017.

The Centre spearheads Research and Innovation in Information Communication Technology for the Development (ICT4D) of ecosystems towards the attainment of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Kenya’s Vision 2030.

We are involved in interdisciplinary research, students’ engagement and collaboration with government, industry and funding agencies.

ICT Research and Innovation identifies technological innovations and solutions that can be developed in addressing ICT issues in health, education, agriculture, big data and analytics, Internet of things (IoT), IT security and capacity building.

Meet the @iLabAfrica Team

The team of over 70 mem­bers com­prises of a rich inter-​disciplinary mix of research­ers with tech­no­logy and busi­ness expert­ise cap­able of meet­ing the require­ments of the centre. In 2012 the Research Centre moved to the ultra-​modern stu­dent centre build­ing in Strath­more Uni­ver­sity, where it occu­pies two floors. This space incor­por­ates: an office block, four innov­a­tion labsopen work­ing spaces and an busi­ness incub­a­tion offices with a capa­city of up to 100 people.
