1.BLIS
BLIS is an open-source system that can be implemented in a local, county, referral, regional or national laboratory. It seamlessly integrates with laboratory instruments and external systems thereby enabling electronic data interchange. It is aligned to the national agenda by providing cost-effective, efficient and effective lab workflow and has been adopted by Kapsabet and Bungoma county referral hospitals and successfully enabled the latter to achieve accreditation, the first in Kenya. Efforts and strategies should be made to scale out this solution nationwide. Read more about BLIS here.
2.RTQII
Rapid Testing Quality Improvement Initiative indicator reporting aims to ensure the quality of HIV rapid testing and expand upon current in-country HIV rapid testing quality improvement work. The RTQII is comprised of the following five key action areas:
The RTQII indicators are developed to help monitor the implementation of activities and to demonstrate progress in strengthening country capacity to improve the quality of HIV testing. These indicators will help assess processes, outcomes and impact. They may not satisfy every country need and may not be designed to provide information on all aspect of the HTC program in country-specific settings. However, they can be adapted at the country-level to assess the impact of overall efforts geared toward improving the quality of HIV testing. (Cited: http://rt-qi.com/about.php)
3.SLMTA(Stepwise Laboratory Management Towards Accreditation) ECHECKLIST
Reliable and efficient laboratory services are vital to well-functioning health systems. While top-notch laboratory practice is essential in disease surveillance and response and patient care, poor quality has overtime been documented more so in sub-Saharan Africa. Medical laboratory accreditation is an integral part of professional laboratory practice. The compelling utilization of data challenges conventional ways of service delivery which makes laboratory electronic audit checklists instrumental in identifying weaknesses, recommending areas for improvement and measuring success. Among the many benefits, e-checklist simplifies data entry and checks for completeness, eliminates the need for paper forms and duplicate data entry, allows sharing of accurate audit information, implements multiple audit types and allows audit questions to be added/changed, tracks laboratory information, provides a way to search for audits and produces reports for visualizing and comparing audits besides running on a personal computer or from the web with one step install.
